distance=rate*time
distance=58*8.5
distance=493 miles they did drive to the grand canyon!

You know they drove for 8.5 hours at 58 miles per hour. That basically means that for every hour they drove, they drove 58 miles per hour. So we just multiple the time by the rate to procure distance.
8.5%2A58=493
So they drove 493 miles. :)
