P=2L+2W (this is the standard equation for perimeter, I believe.)
My teacher wants me to solve for the variable W. Please help me out here?

Multiply both sides by

Add to both sides.

Then swap sides because the subject of the sentence is traditionally in the LHS.

P-2L=2W Subtract 2L from both sides.

2W+=+P-2L Flip the equation

W+=+%28P-2L%29%2F2 Divide both sides by 2 to isolate W.

And you're done since W is all by itself now.
