Question 790669: The Martins own a forestry field. They have grown each tree from seedlings to be harvested after a 10 year period. The field contains 152 trees. The number of trees in each row is 3 more than twice the number of rows. find the number of rows and the number of trees per row.
Here is what I have so far.
Rows: r
Trees/Row: 2r + 3
Trees in Field: 152
r(2r + 3) = 152 > > > 2r^2 + 3r = 152 turns into....2r^2 + 3r - 152 = 0
2r^2 + 3 - 152 = 0 Factored....
(2r + 19)(r - 8)
r = -19/2, not possible, r = 8, ALSO NOT POSSIBLE....2(8) + 3 = 19..not 152.
What am I doing wrong??? Please help!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

If r = 8, there are 8 rows, and there are 2(8) + 3 = 19 in each row. So there are 8 times 19 = 152 trees. What's the matter with that answer?
