Question 78739: A supporting wire is to be attached to the top of a 32 ft. atenna If the wire must be anchord 32 feet from the base of the attena, what length of wire is required? Answer by tutor_paul(519) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! This problem is asking you to find the hypoteneuse of a
right triangle with the 2 other sides given.
To solve this, use the pythagorean theorem: where c is the hypotenuese while
a and b are the other 2 sides.
So, for your problem,
Solve for c by taking the square root of both sides:
There is also a trick to problems like this. If you recognize that
the triangle is an isosceles right triangle (i.e. two sides are equal),
then the hypoteneuse is always where s is one side.
Good Luck
