I have been stuck on this problem for more than an hour. Can someone please help me? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The length of a picture frame is 6 cm longer than the width. If the length is increased by 9 cm and the width by 5 cm, the perimeter will be 160cm. Find the dimensions of the original rectangle.
--------
Original dimensions:
Let width = x cm ; then length = x+6 cm
-------
New dimensions:
length = x+6+9 = x+15 cm ; width = x+5 cm
-------
Equation:
P = 2(L + W)
160 = 2(x+15 +x+5)
80 = 2x + 20
2x = 60
x = 30
--------------------------
Original dimensions::
width = x = 30 cm
length = x+6 = 36 cm
