First you must find the Least common Denominator when adding a fraction with other fractions:
2 1/4 - - 2 3/12
18 1/3 - - 18 4/12
+32 1/2 - - 32 6/12

- - - - = 52 13/12
or - - - - 53 1/12 (simplified)
The least common denominator is 12
Then you figure how many times does 4 go into 12 which is 3(from the 1/4)
then how many times does 3 go into 12 which is 4(from the 1/3)
then how many times does 2 go into 12 which is 6(from the 1/2)
This works the same way in ALL fractions. You must find the LOWEST Common Multiple that all your added denominators can go into.
