Sam = x years
Tom = x + 8 years
Hal = x + 7 years
The total of their ages = 57
x + (x + 8) + (x + 7) = 57
3x + 15 = 57
3x = 57 - 15
3x = 42
x = 14
Hal is 21 years old.
