The independent quantity is the number of kilowatt-hours used (the input to the calculation). The dependent quantity is the amount charged, called the dependent quantity because it "depends" on the value of the independent quantity. This is also referred to as the function value. You were given the unit rate of change. Hint: Look for something with the word "per" in it, as in "some amount per unit".
