You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Assume you mean:
Write the slope intercept form of the equation of the line passing through (2,-2) and perpendicular to the line y = (1/3)x + 3
:
Slope of the above equation: m1 = 1/3
:
The slope relationship between lines which are perpendicular m1*m2 = -1
:
Find m2:
:
m2*(1/3) = -1
m2 = -1 * 3
m2 = -3
:
Find the equation of the perpendicular line using the point/slope equation:
y - y1 = m(x - x1); x1 = 2, y1 = -2; m = -3
:
y - (-2) = -3(x - 2)
y + 2 = -3x + 6
y = -3x + 6 - 2
y = -3x + 4, is perpendicular to y = (1/3)x + 3
