Thanks so much for your help. Found 2 solutions by stanbon, bucky:Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! This is the correct way:
(3x^3+3x^2+3) - (7x^3-9x^2+5x-3)
= -4x^3 + 12x^2 +6

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Is the equation like this:
.
(7x^3-9x^2+5x-3)- (3x^3+3x^2+3) <=== not like this
.
or is the equation written like this:
.
(3x^3+3x^2+3) - (7x^3-9x^2+5x-3) <=== like this ... use this one
.
Think of it this way ... suppose the problem had said "Subtract 10 from 20". Or maybe
take 10 away from 20. You would have recognized right off that this meant 20 - 10.
.
Even if it had said take 20 away from 10 you might not have questioned that it meant
.
10 - 20
.
Hope this helps you to see why the second choice you presented was the correct one. It
would be comparable to using the words:
.
Take 7x^3-9x^2+5x-3 away from 3x^3+3x^2+3
.
Since you didn't ask for help other than getting things in the right order, I presume
that you can do the actual subtraction itself. If not, post again.
