Question 781225: Can you please help me solve this Elimination equation
-5x+4y=-2
-x-y=-4
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! -5x +4y =-2
-x - y =-4
:
We need to multiply one or both equations so the coefficients of one of the
unknowns are the same.
:
Multiply the 2nd equation by 4
-5x + 4y =-2
-4x - 4y =-16
------------------Adding eliminates y, find x
-9x = -18
x = -18/-9
x = +2
Find y using the 2nd original equation
-2 - y = -4
-y = -4 + 2
-y = -2
multiply both sides by -1
y = 2
:
x=2, y=2
:
Check solutions in the 1st equation
-5(2) + 4(2) = -2
-10 + 8 = -2
:
Do you think you can do elimination now, did I explain it well enough?
