You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I paddled for 3 hrs upstream and then 2 hours downstream. Speed upstream was 10 mph slower than downstream. If i traveled a total of 30 miles. How fast did i go downstream?
-----------------------------------
Upstream DATA:
time = 3 hrs ; rate = x -10 mph ; distance = rt = 3x-30 miles
---------------
Downstream DATA:
time = 2 hrs ; rate = x mph ; distance = rt = 2x miles
------
Equation:
3x-30 + 2x = 30
5x = 60
x = 12 mph (downstream rate)
----
x-10 = 2 mph (upstream data)
