Question 780426: John and Terry are painting a house together. When working alone John can paint the house in 14 hours, if Terry is working alone he can paint this same house in 13 hours. How long will it take John and Terry to paint the house together? Give your answer in hours correct to 2 decimal places. Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! John's rate = 1/14 job per hr.
Terry's rate = 1/13 job per hr.
Together rate = 1/x job per hr.
1/14 + 1/13 = 1/x
Common denominator = 182x
13x + 14x = 182
27x = 182
x = 182/27
x = 6.74 hrs.
Hope this helps.
