distance between base and camp =x
time there + time return = 8 hours
t= d/r
x%2F12+%2Bx%2F8+=+8

multiply equation by LCM 24
2x+3x=8*24
5x=192
/5
x=38.40 miles
base is 38.4 miles from head quarters
