I think you meant HOURLY or REGULAR RATE, not HOURLY WAGE.
Let his hourly rate be H
Then his overtime hourly rate = 1˝H, or  , or 
Then: 
40H + 5(3H) = 440
40H + 15H = 440
55H = 440
