You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In an hour, the slower car moves 40 miles. At that point the second car is approaching it at a rate of 20MPH, the difference of their two speeds. It takes two hours to catch up.

How many hours will it take a car traveling at 60 mph to catch up to a car traveling at 40 mph if the slower car starts one hour before the faster car? And please show the work so i can understand it
Car I speed = 40 mph
Car II speed = 60 mph
Before Car II starts Car I has traveled 40 miles in 1 hour.
Since they are traveling in same direction effective speed = 60-40 mph
=20 mph
Catch up speed = 20 mph
catch up distance = 40 miles
time to catch up = 40/20 = 2 hours
