You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Jack is twice as old as Jill. In 2 years, Jack will be 4 times as old as Jill was 9 years ago. How old are they now
Ans:
Let Jill's age be x.
Then Jack's age is 2*x
In 2 years, Jack's age will be = 2*x + 2
Jill's age 9 years ago = x - 9
So we have the equation
2%2Ax+%2B+2+=+4%2A%28x+-+9%29
2%2Ax+%2B+2+=+4%2Ax+-+36
simplifying
2%2Ax+=+38
x+=+19
Jill's age = 19 and Jack's age = 38
Check: 2 years later, Jack will be 40. Jill's age 9 years ago = 10. 40 = 4*10.
Correct :)
