Question 776309: Flying with the wind a plane went 183 km/h. Flying into the same wind the plane only went 141km/h. Find the speed of the plane in still air and the speed of the wind. So far I've tried making a table, but I didn't know what columns were needed and I don't think it's a D=RT problem. I also thought maybe converting km/h to mph might be helpful, but so far it hasn't been. Your help would be greatly appreciated and I want to thank you for tutoring us kids/teens for free :)

Flying with the wind a plane went 183 km/h. Flying into the same wind the plane only went 141km/h. Find the speed of the plane in still air and the speed of the wind.
=================
Let plane speed in still are be "p".
Let wind speed be "w"
------------------
Equations:
p + w = 183 km/h
p - w = 141 km/h
-----------------
Add and solve for "p":
2p = 323
plane speed in still air = 161.5 km/hr
------
Solve for "w":
p + w = 183
161.5 + w = 183
wind speed = 21.5 km/hr
