You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Q:
P is a point on the x-axis 13 units from the point (-3,5) Find all the possible coordinates for the point P
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A:
d = distance between P(x,0) and (-3,5)
sqrt%28%28x-%28-3%29%29%5E2+%2B+%280-5%29%5E2%29 = 13, square both sides
%28x%2B3%29%5E2+%2B+25+=+169
%28x%2B3%29%5E2+=+144, get the square root of both sides
x + 3 = ±12
x = 12 - 3 OR x = -12 - 3
x = 9 or x = -15
Answer: (9,0) and (-15,0)
