You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two runners start out from the same spot on an oval track which is 1/4 mile around. If one runner runs at 6 mph and the other runs at 8 mph and they run in the same direction, when will the faster runner be one lap ahead of the slower runner?
--------------
One lap = 1/4 mile
The difference in speed = 2 mi/hr
----
d = r*t
t = d/r = (1/4)/2 = 1/8 hour
----
check:
8 mi/hr*(1/8) hr = 1 mile
6 mi/hr*(1/8) hr = 3/4 mile
1/4 mile apart.
