Question 775448: "Sally and sue are painting a room. By themselves, sally can paint the room in 3 hours and sue can paint the room in 2 hours. How long will it take them to paint the room, working together" please and thank you. Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Sally can paint the room in 3hrs
Sue can paint the room in 2hrs.
Sally's rate 1/3 job/hr
Sue's rate 1/2 job/hr
Together rate - 1/x job/hr
1/3 + 1/2 = 1/x
Common denominator = 6x
2x + 3x = 6
5x = 6
x = 6/5
x = 1 1/5 hrs
x = 1 hour 12 minutes.
Hope this helps.
