Question 775210: I need help setting up this word problem in an inequality. The question is: Your math test scores are 68,78,90 and 91. What is the lowest score you can earn on the next test and still achieve and average of at least 85?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x= score on the next test
The average of all 5 scores would be
%2868%2B78%2B90%2B91%2Bx%29%2F5=%28327%2Bx%29%2F5
I would think that a calculated average of 84.5 or 84.6 would be reported as 85, but that would complicate the problem. So I expect that the average needs to be what your science teacher would call 85.0 or larger, and your math teacher would call just 85 or larger. Then the inequality would be
%28327%2Bx%29%2F5%3E=85 --> 327%2Bx%3E=85%2A5 --> 327%2Bx%3E=425 --> x%3E=425-327 --> x%3E=98
