x - y = 38
x = 38 + y
Substitute x = 38 + y
into x + y = 312
38 + y + y = 312
38 + 2y = 312
2y = 312 - 38
2y = 274
y = 137
Substitute y = 137
into x + y = 312
x + 137 = 312
x = 312 - 137
x = 175
Two numbers are:
137 and 175
