Question 773647: A building has a rectangular porch that is 15 feet by 20 feet. One of the long sides of the porch is connected to the building. The other sides of the porch have a 2-foot-high railing. If you were painting the railing, how long is the railing you would paint? Answer by 303795(602) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If the porch had railing around all sides it would have 2 sides of 20 feet and 2 sides of 15 feet. As one long side is connected to the building it will not have a railing on that side so the porch railing has 1 side of 20 feet and two sides 0f 15 feet. This gives a total railing length of 15 + 15 + 20 = 50 feet.
NOTE : The height of the railing is irrelevant to the length of the railing so the 2 feet measurement is ignored.
