Question 77336: 2-(x-1/4)=x+2/3
Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 2-(x-1/4)=x+2/3 first lets get rid of the parens
2-x+1/4=x+2/3 (note that (x-1/4), in effect, is multiplied by -1). Next we will get rid of the fractions. We can do this by multiplyiing every term by the LCM which is 12 (smallest number that both 4 and 3 evenly divides into)
2(12)-x(12)+(1/4)(12)=x(12)+(2/3)(12) simplifying we get
24-12x+3=12x+8 or
27-12x=12x+8 subtract 27 and also 12x from both sides
27-27-12x-12x=12x-12x+8-27 collect like terms
-24x=-19 divide both sides by -24
x=19/24 or 0.79167-----------------ans
ck
2-(0.79167-0.25)=0.79167+0.66667
2-0.54167=1.45834
1.45833=1.45834-----------------close enough
Hope this helps----ptaylor
