Question 772854: can someone please help me solve this and explain step by step please
The centerline of a new road that we are laying out passes thru grid points (602, 925) and (812, 745). To prepare for the surveyors, we are working out a linear equation for the centerline.
a) What is the slope of our line?
b) What is the y-intercept of our line?
a) slope (reduced fraction):
b) y-intercept (nearest integer):

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Equation for Slope.
y2 - y1/x2 - x1
745 - 925/812 - 602
-180/210 = -6/7
Using equation:
y - b = m(x - a)
We can use either set of coordinates
Using (602, 925)
a = 602, b = 925 and m (slope) = -6/7
y - b = m(x - a)
y - 925 = -6/7(x - 602)
y - 925 = -6/7x + 3612/7
y = -6/7x + 3612/7 + 6475/7 (925 = 6475/7)
y = -6/7x + 10087/7
OR
multiply thro by 7
7y = -6x + 10087
Slope = -6/7
y intercept (0, 10087/7) = (0, 1441)
Hope this helps.
