Question 772851: Please help me get the correct answer to this equation. Here is the problem: 0.7(3x+6)=1.1-(x-2). I got an answer of 11/33 but that is not the correct answer. In the back of my textbook it has an answer of -51/31. Here is what I worked out.
10(2.1x+4.2)=10(1.1-1x+2)
10(2.1x+4.2)=10(3.1-1x)
(10)*2.1x + (10)*4.2 = (10)*3.1 -(10)*1x
21x+42=31-10x
21x+10x=31-42
31x=-11
31x/31=-11/31
My Answer: -11/31

10(2.1x+4.2)=10(1.1-1x+2)
10(2.1x+4.2)=10(3.1-1x)
(10)*2.1x + (10)*4.2 = (10)*3.1 -(10)*1x
21x+42=31-10x
21x+10x=31-42
31x=-11
31x/31=-11/31
My Answer: -11/31

10(2.1x+4.2)=10(1.1-1x+2)
21x + 42 = 11 - 10x + 20
21x + 42 = -10x + 31
Add 10x
31x + 42 = 31
31x = -11
x = -11/31
