3x + 4y = 4
4y = -3x + 4
Divide both sides by 4
y = -.75x + 1
In the first equation, replace y with (-.75x+1)
5x + 4(-.75x+1) = 12
5x - 3x + 4 = 12
2x = 12 - 4
2x = 8
x = 4
