You can use the product rule of exponent: x^n * x^m = x^(n + n)
2^x * 4^(x - 1)
= 2^x * 2^2(x - 1)
= 2^x * 2^(2x - 2)
= 2^(x + 2x - 2)
= 2^(3x - 2)
