Question 771536: Please help me with this word problem i'm having problems setting up the equations:
A gourmet shop wants to mix coffee beans that cost $3.00 per pound with coffee beans that cost $4.25 per pound to create 25 pounds of a new blend that costs $3.50 per pound. Find the number of pounds of each needed to produce a new blend.

This is what I have so far because I'm very unsure of what to do:
3x+4.25y=87.5
x+y=25

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3x+4.25y=87.5
x+y=25
Solve the second equation for x

                 x = 25 - y

Substitute (25 - y) for x in the first equation

 3(25 - y) + 4.25y = 87.5

   75 - 3y + 4.25y = 87.5

        75 + 1.25y = 87.5

             1.25y = 12.5

                 y = 12.5%2F1.25

                 y = 10

Substitute 10 for y in

                 x = 25 - y

                 x = 25 - 10

                 x = 15
