Question 769678: A train leaves a station and travels at 80 mi/hr for 3.5 hours, and then at 10 mi/hr for 2 hours to reach its destination. What was the train's average speed for the entire trip? Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Distance = Speed * Time
1)Distance = 80mi/hr * 3.5hrs
Distance = 280mi
2)Distance = 10mi/hr * 2hrs
Distance = 20mi
Total Distance = 300 miles.
....................
Speed = Distance/ Time
Speed = 300mi/5.5hrs
Average Speed = 54.55mi/hr
Hope this helps.
