Question 769463: How do u work out this word problem? The distance between two cities is ninety miles,and a woman drives from one city to the other at a rate of forty-five mph. At what rate must she return if the total travel time is three hours and forty minutes Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If the woman drives ninety miles at
a rate of 45mph.
Then she will take 2 hours.
3 hours 40 minutes - 2 hours
= 1 hour 40 minutes
1 hour 40 minutes = 1.667 hours
Speed = Distance/Time
Speed = 90 miles/1.667 hours
Speed = 53.98mph.
Hope this helps.
