Draw in the diameter from top to bottom of that circle,
in green below:



The green diameter is the same as the shorter side of the
rectangle.  So the radius of the circle is 1%2F2 the diameter or 
1%2F2%22%22%2A%22%228.5 = 4.25 cm.

Area of a circle = pr2 = (3.14)(4.25)2 = 56.71625 cm², rounded to tenth of a square centimeter,

Answer = 56.7 cm²
