Question 768064: Let g(x)=3x-x^2. Find the difference quotient of g.
Here's what I have: (but, the -x^2 is causing me trouble). Are you able to tell me where I'm messing up? Here's what I have so far:
(x+h)^2+3(x+h)-(-x^2+3x)/h.
x^2+2xh+H^2+3x+3h+x^2-3x/h.
2x^2+2xh+h^2+3h/h.
2x^2+2x+h+3.
Something tells me this is not correct, though. Will you help me?!?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
%28g%28x%2Bh%29-g%28x%29%29%2Fh
%28%283%28x%2Bh%29-%28x%2Bh%29%5E2%29-%283x-x%5E2%29%29%2Fh
%283x%2B3h-%28x%5E2%2B2xh%2Bh%5E2%29-%283x2-x%5E2%29%29%2Fh
%283x%2B3h-x%5E2-2xh-h%5E2-3x%2Bx%5E2%29%2Fh
Watch for simplifications, cancellations within the numerator,
OKAY...
%283h-2xh-h%5E2%29%2Fh

EDIT: Corrected the mistake in my own work,

finish the simplification,
highlight%283-2x-h%29
