Question 76800: Can someone please help me with this question or a similar one Please?
A gun fires a bullet almost straight up from the edge of a 150-foot cliff. If the bullet leaves the gun with a speed of 394 feet per second, its height at time t is given by h(t)=-16t^2+394t+150, measured from the ground below the cliff. When will the bullet land on the ground below the cliff? (Hint: What is its height when it lands? Remember that we are measuring from the ground below, not from the cliff.)
Thank You,
Sabrina

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
:
It's height will be 0 when it lands, right? Therefore h = 0, so we have:
:
-16t^2 + 394t + 150 = 0; solve for t, the positive solution is what we want
:
Use the quadratic formula, a=-16; b=394; c=150
t+=+%28-b+%2B-+sqrt%28+b%5E2-4%2Aa%2Ac+%29%29%2F%282%2Aa%29+
:
t+=+%28-394+%2B-+sqrt%28+394%5E2-+4+%2A+-16+%2A+150+%29%29%2F%282%2A-16%29+
:
t+=+%28-394+%2B-+sqrt%28155236+-+%28-9600%29+%29%29%2F%28-32%29+
:
t+=+%28-394+%2B-+sqrt%28155236+%2B+9600+%29%29%2F%28-32%29+
:
t+=+%28-394+%2B-+sqrt%28164836+%29%29%2F%28-32%29+
:
1st solution:
t+=+%28-394+-+406+%29%2F%28-32%29+
:
t+=+%28-800%29%2F%28-32%29+
:
t = +25 seconds, this is only solution we care about.

Make sense to you? I hope it did.
