Question 767471: I really need help with the following problem. The function f is defined as follows f(x)= {x+5 if -3 less than or equal x < 1
{8 if x=1
{-x+4 if x > 1 }
Find the domain of the function
Locate any intercepts
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f(x) =

Here is the graph:

The left-most point is (-3,2), which is included.
From there it follows the line y=x+5 until just before it gets
to (1,6), but it does not include (1,6). Then at 1, it has a
single isolated point (1,8). Then beginning just after the point
(1,3), which it does not contain, it follows the line y = -x+4
all the way to infinity on the right.

The domain is is from -3 to infinity, [-3,) or {x|x≥-3}.

It has a y-intercept when it is following the line y=x+5 and thus has
y-intercept (0,5).

It has an x-intercept when it is following the line y=-x+4, and thus
has x-intercept (4,0).
