Unknown number = x
4x - 3 = 325
4x = 325 + 3
4x = 328
x = 82

let n = the number we are looking for
Then we have
(1) 4*n - 3 = 325 or
(2) 4*n = 325 + 3 or
(3) 4*n = 328 or
(4) n = 328/4 or
(5) n = 82
Let's check this using (1).
Is (4*82 - 3 = 325)?
Is (328 - 3 = 325)?
Is (325 = 325)? Yes
Answer: The number is 82
