You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A town's population ratio of males : females is 49:51. If the town has a current population of 17,600, estimate the increase in males and females in 10 years time if the population is expected to increase by 30%.
-----
Equation:
49x + 51x = 17,600 where 49x is the # of males and 51x the # of females
-----------------
100x = 17,500
x = 175
----
# of males is 49*175 = 8575
# of females is 51*175 = 8925
----------------
New Population:
1.3*17,600 = 22880
49x+51x = 22880
100x = 22880
x = 228.8
---
# of males will be 49*228.8 = 11211 when rounded down
Increase = 11211-8575 = 2636
----
# of females will be 51*228.8 = 11669 when rounded up
Increase = 11669-8925 = 2744
