let' two positive numbers be x (larger) and y (smaller)
if a difference is 8, then x-y=8......eq.1
if the larger number is twice the smaller minus 7, then x=2y-7.....eq.2
now solve the system:
x-y=8......eq.1
x=2y-7.....eq.2
___________________________substitute x from 2 in 1

2y-7-y=8......eq.1....solve for y
y=8%2B7
y=15
now find x
x=2%2A15-7.....eq.2
x=30-7
x=23

so, two positive numbers are: 23 and 15
