Question 76458: I really need some help - my assignment is due tomorrow night and I have about 6 more problems. Here is one, if someone can help me:
for the function of y = x2 - 6x + 8 what is the equation for the line of symmetry for the graph of this function.
Any help will be so appreciated.
Thanks

You can put this solution on YOUR website! if you set y equal to zero and factor the resulting quadratic equation, you get (x-4)(x-2)=0
this means that when y=0, x=2 and x=4 (these are the x intercepts)
the graph of this function is a parabola, opening upward, with the axis of symmetry parallel to the y-axis
the parabola crosses the x-axis at two points, and the axis of symmetry is midway between them at x=3
x=3 IS the equation for the axis of symmetry
