You can put this solution on YOUR website! The sum of two numbers is 41.
One number is one less than twice the other.
Find the larger of the two numbers.
------
Equations:
a + b = 41
a = 2b -1
-------------------
Substitute for "a" and solve for "b"
2b-1 + b = 41
----
3b = 42
b = 14
-----
Solve for "a":
a = 2b-1
a = 2*14-1 = 27
-----------------------------
