You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you have a line with slope = +m+, then ANY
line perpendicular to it has slope = +-1%2Fm+
----------------
The line +x=9+ is saying: " I don't care what the
value of +y+ is, if I look at the x-axis, I will see +9+ "
This is a vertical line through ( 9,y ) where +y+ can be
anything.
----------------
A line perpendicular to a vertical line is a horizontal line.
----------------
So, you have a horizontal line through ( 2,7 )
All horizontal line have slope = +0+
----------------
Using the general point-slope formula:
+%28+y+-+7+%29+%2F+%28+x+-+2+%29+=+0+
+y+-+7+=+0%2A%28+x+-+2+%29+
+y+=+7+
If you want it in slope-intercept form, it's
+y+=+0%2Ax+%2B+7+
This line is saying: " I don't care what +x+ is, when I
look at the y-axis, I always see +7+. This just
says it's a horizontal line.

Any equation of the form is a vertical line. Any line perpendicular to a vertical line is a horizontal line. Horizontal lines have the characteristic that every point on the line has exactly the same -coordinate. Since the desired line passes through , which has a -coordinate of 7, every point on the line must have a -coordinate equal to 7. The slope of a horizontal line is 0. The -intercept must, since it is also on the line, have a -coordinate of 7, hence the -intercept is the point . Write a slope-intercept equation where the slope is 0 and the -coordinate of the -intercept is 7.
