You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Car 1 = x
Car 2 = x + 6
Time = 1.5 hrs
Combined distance = 171 miles
x * 1.5 + (x + 6) * 1.5 = 171 miles
1.5x + 1.5x + 9 = 171 miles
3x + 9 = 171 miles
3x = 171 - 9
3x = 162
x = 54 mph
Car 1 = 54mph
Car 2 = 60mph
Proof:
Speed * Time = Distance
54mph * 1.5hrs = 81 miles
60mph * 1.5hrs = 90 miles
Total = 171 miles
Hope this helps.
