Question 763564: An athlete runs 8 miles, first at a slower speed and then at a faster speed. The total time spent running is 1 hour. If the athlete runs 1/3 hour at 6 miles per hour, find the second speed.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance = Time * Speed
= 1/3hr * 6mph
= 2 miles
Therefore the athlete ran the 6 miles (8 - 2)
in 2/3 hr.
6hr/2/3 = 9mph
Second speed = 9mph.
Hope this helps.
