You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The equation (in slope-intercept form) of a line with slope m and passing through (x1,y1) is
(y - y1) = m(x - x1)
Here, m = -5, x1 = -3, y1 = -8
Substituting the above, the equation for the line is:
%28y+-+%28-8%29%29+=+-5%28x+-+%28-3%29%29
Simplifying
y+%2B+8+=+-5%28x+%2B+3%29 or
y+=+-5%2Ax+-23
See the equation for the line below.
Solved by pluggable solver: DESCRIBE a linear EQUATION: slope, intercepts, etc
Equation 5+x+%2B+1+y+=+-23 describes a sloping line. For any
equation ax+by+c = 0, slope is -a%2Fb+=+-5%2F1.
  • X intercept is found by setting y to 0: ax+by=c becomes ax=c. that means that x = c/a. -23/5 = -4.6.
  • Y intercept is found by setting x to 0: the equation becomes by=c, and therefore y = c/b. Y intercept is -23/1 = -23.
  • Slope is -5/1 = -5.
  • Equation in slope-intercept form: y=-5*x+-23.
