Question 762254: There are 80 students in a class with an average test score of 80. If the top 20 and bottom 10 scores are removed, the average score of the remaining students is 85. What is the average score of those removed? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
If 80 students average 80, then the total score for the 80 students is 80 times 80 or 6400. If you take away 30 students and the average is now 85, the total scored by 50 students is 50 times 85 or 4250. 6400 minus 4250 leaves 2150 points to be scored by the 30 students that were removed. So, what is the average for the 30 if their total is 2150?
