Question 761972: Jena and Tom, working together, can paint the deck in 9 hours. Working alone, Tom takes three times as long as Jena. How long does it take Jena to paint the deck alone? Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Jena = 1/x
Tom = 1/3x
1/x + 1/3x = 1/9
Common denominator = 27x
27 + 9 = 3x
36 = 3x
x = 12
Jena takes 12 hours
Tom takes 36 hours
Hope this helps.
