One number is 3 times another. If the sum of their reciprocals is 2/9 , find the two numbers
Let the first number be x.
Then the second number is 3*x
Sum of reciprocals = 1%2Fx+%2B+1%2F%283%2Ax%29+=+2%2F9 ---- eqn (1)
Multiply the above by 9x (to remove the denominators)
9+%2B+3+=+2%2Ax
2%2Ax+=+12
x+=+6
The numbers are 6 and 18.
Check by adding the sum of their reciprocals.
