You can also apply the distributive property to the other expression in parenthesis:
-4x%286%2B1%29=-4x%2A6%2B%28-4x%29%2A1=-24x-4x=-28x, BUT
that is silly, because you can calculate %286%2B1%29=7 and then multiply that times -4x.
