You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+-+8+=+2y ---> equation (1)
x+%2B+y+=+-2 ---> equation (2)
For substitution, we have to express x in terms of y. In the 1st equation, let us get rid of the term "8" on the left hand side, to get x alone. To do this, we have to add 8 to both sides of the equation (because there is a "-8" on the left side, adding 8 will cancel it out)
From (1), by adding 8 to both sides, we get
x+=+2y+%2B+8 ---> equation(3)
Now that we know that x = 2y + 8, we substitute for x in equation (2)
2y+%2B+8+%2B+y+=+-2 -> because x = 2y + 8
Simplifying

3y+%2B+8+=+-2 ---> equation(4)
Subtract 8 from both sides (to get rid of the +8 on the left side)
3y+=+-2+-8+=+-10
y+=+-10%2F3
Now that we know y, we can get the value of x from (3)
x+=+2y+%2B+8+=+2%2A%28-10%2F3%29+%2B+8+=+-20%2F3+%2B+8+=+-20%2F3+%2B+24%2F3+=+4%2F3
x+=+4%2F3
